Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez and Juan ‘El Gallo’ Estrada have their trilogy fight in the works for January 22nd in California.

According to La Prensa, the two will be battling on January 22nd. This should be an excellent fight like their previous two, but hopefully, the judging improves over the last one between them.

Estrada (42-3, 28 KOs) won a questionable 12 round split decision over Chocolatito earlier this year on March 13 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Interestingly, the boxing world overwhelmingly disagreed with the decision, believing that Chocolatito had done more than enough to deserve the victory. Even the crowd at American Airlines Center, which had originally been on Estrada’s side, loudly booed the results after they were announced.

The scores were:

117-111 – Estrada
115-113 – Estrada
115-113 – Chocolatito
Boxing News 24 had Chocolatito winning by a 116-112 score. He took over the fight after four rounds, and appeared to sweep the last eight rounds, badly outworking Estrada with his combination punching.

The fight was seemingly even more decisive than the first one between Roman and Estrada in 2012, which was won by Chocolatito by a 12 round unanimous decision by the following scores:

118-110
116-112
116-112
It’s interesting how judges can watch a similar fight and score it so dramatically different. You can argue that if you took the two judges that scored the March rematch between Estrada and Chocolatito and had them work the first fight in 2012, it’s possible they would have had Juan winning.

It was the same exact fight but two of the judges in the last one scored for Estrada, and the fans did not agree with them.

The former four-division world champion Chocolatito (50-3, 41 KOs) says nothing has been confirmed yet for the date and the location of his third fight with Estrada.

“It’s going to be a great fight, the same as the second one,” said Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez to Fighthype on his trilogy match with Estrada. “We’re both warriors and we want a good fight. We know it’s going to be a great fight.

“We don’t know,” said Chocolatito when asked if he knew the date for the trilogy with Estrada. “It’s not confirmed yet, but it should be coming soon. Will announce it. There’s no date and there’s no place.

“Yes, very motivated,” said Roman when asked if he’s excited about fighting Juan Estrada again. “It’s going to be a great fight for the fans. I’m always motivated or all fights.

“It was a very exciting fight and people like that,” said Gonzalez about his rematch with Estrada last March in Dallas, Texas.

“It was an excellent fight and it proved what he had. He’s a great fighter,” said Chocolatito in talking about Canelo Alvarez and his win over Caleb Plant. “No,” said Roman when asked if there’s anybody that can beat Canelo.
