Less than 2 weeks after becoming the unified IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO light welterweight champion with a 3rd round knockout over IBF 140 lb. champion Julius Indongo on August 19, Terence “Bud” Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs) has vacated his International Boxing Federation title.

Crawford, 29, didn’t have much of a choice, as the IBF had ordered a purse bid for this Thursday, August 31, for Crawford’s mandatory defense against #1 IBF challenger Sergey Lipinets. Rather than participate in the purse bid and wind up having to defend against the little-known contender Lipinets, Crawford vacated his IBF title.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 26 KOs) was able to walk the supposedly big punching Conor McGregor (0-1) down and stop him in the 10th round last Saturday night. UFC star McGregor, 29, came into the fight with Mayweather having a reputation as a knockout artist in the UFC, where he holds 2 titles.

Against Mayweather, the southpaw McGregor didn’t look powerful at all. He was mostly hitting Mayweather with arm punches for 10 rounds. Mayweather said after the fight that if McGregor was a big puncher, he wouldn’t have walked him down the way he did in their mega-fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) has accepted newly crowned WBA World 175 lb. champion Badou Jack’s challenge to fight him in a unification match. Stevenson, 39, wanted to fight a unification match against IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward, but there doesn’t appear to be any interest in making that fight from his side.

Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs) received a purse of $750,000 for his fight against #6 WBO Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-4-2, 24 KOs) last Saturday night on HBO World Championship Boxing from the StubHub center in Carson, California. Kamegai’s purse was 192,000.That’s good money for a fighter with a 3-2-1 record in his last 6 fights going into the Cotto match.

Following his 5th round knockout loss to Badou Jack (22-1-2, 13 KOs) last Saturday night, Nathan Cleverly (30-4, 16 KOs) announced his retirement on his social media site. Only 30-yeaars-old, Cleverly said he had “Too many miles” on him from his 12-year pro career. Cleverly lost his WBA World light heavyweight title in the defeat to Jack.
