Now that Manny Pacquiao has announced that he won’t be fighting for the remainder of 2017, it leaves WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) without an opponent for November.

Horn’s promoters at Duco Events are in the process of cutting a deal with #11 WBO Gary Corcoran (17-1,7 KOs) to step in and take the fight with Horn for November, according to Dan Rafael.

Despite Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs) testing positive for 2 banned drugs in his pre-fight test by VADA, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) says he’s still going to be fighting on November 4th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Wilder, 31, doesn’t know who he’ll be fighting, but he would prefer that it be Ortiz if possible. However, it’s not up to him, Wilder admits. It’s up to the World Boxing Council to make the decision. The WBC is not likely to let Ortiz go ahead and fight Wilder after he tested positive on his A-sample by VADA during his pre-fight testing.

Middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (26-2, 18 KOs) picked up his fourth consecutive win on Saturday night in stopping an over-matched Nick Quigley (15-3, 3 KOs) in the 4th round in a fight televised on ESPN Deportes from the House of Blues in Boston, Massachusetts.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is ready to match his fighter IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs) against the winner of the Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz fight. Hearn feels confident enough to want to pit Joshua against the Wilder-Ortiz winner in February or March of 2018.

Rushing Joshua into a fight against the winner of the Wilder-Ortiz fight could be a recipe for disaster for him. Hearn needs to take a hard look at Joshua’s last fight against Wladimir Klitschko to see how green the kid is right now. Joshua still has a lot to learn before he is ready to take on the big guys in the heavyweight division.

UFC star Conor McGregor is confident that in a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., he’d have enough stamina to do the job on him to hand him his first loss of his career. McGregor notes that he was doing well earlier in the fight by showing Mayweather things that he’d never seen before during his career. After he gassed out, the Mayweather took over and got the victory.

Cuban Heavyweight Luis Ortiz looks likely to lose his WBC title shot against American Deontay Wilder after failing a drug test with a little over a month to go until the event. Ortiz previously failed a drugs test following his initial TKO victory over Lateef Kayode of Nigeria in 2014. The result of the bout was later overturned and declared a no contest after his urine sample tested positive for the banned steroid nandralone.

The World Boxing Super Series continues this Saturday night with WBC cruiserweight champion Mairis Briedis fighting Mike Perez with the winner of his match to face WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk (13-0, 11 KOs in the semifinals the first quarter of 2018.

You can say that Briedis-Perez winner will have the toughest fight in the tournament in battling Usyk. Recently, Usyk defeated Marco Huck by a 10th round knockout in his quarterfinals fight in the WBSS tournament on September 9th in Berlin, Germany. The win took the 30-year-old 2012 Olympic gold medalist Usyk to the next round of the $50 million WBSS tourney.

WBC World junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (29-0, 14 KOs) will be defending his title for the second time next month against his mandatory Erickson Lubin (18-0, 13 KOs) on October 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Charlo, 27, took exception to Lubin criticizing his recent opposition in defeating Charles Hatley in his first defense of his title last April. Charlo says he’s never heard of the opponents that Lubin has fought before during his 4-year pro career.
