Terence “Bud” Crawford says he’ll be fighting IBF welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (22-0, 19 KOs), and he questions what’s so special about him. Crawford says he’s now fighting at 147 despite him not having given up all of his 140 lb. titles.
Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) opened on IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua with both barrels in criticizing him for saying he’s not sure if he’s ready to face him now. Wilder took that to mean that the 27-year-old Joshua is getting cold feet about wanting to fight him.
Wilder, 31, says Joshua is talking about not wanting to fight him until 2010. Wilder sees that as a ploy to try and wait him out until he gets old before he faces him in 3 years from now. Wilder says he won’t be old anytime soon. Wilder says isn’t sure if Joshua is scared or using performance enhancing drugs.
Danny Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) will be fighting for the first time with his new promoters at Matchroom Boxing against Luis Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) on November 11 on HBO at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The Jacobs-Arias fight was announced to the public on Tuesday at a press conference in New York City.
Dominic Breazeale (18-1, 16 KOs) says open to fighting British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (21-1, 16 KOs) on October 28 on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev card in Cardiff, Wales. Breazeale is more than a handful for a good but flawed heavyweight like Whyte. I consider Whyte vs. Breazeale as a 50-50 fight, especially given the small amount of preparation time for both guys to train.
Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is looking to negotiate a rematch against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for Cowboys Stadium rather than Las Vegas, Nevada. Loeffler likes the idea of staging the Canelo-GGG fight in front of a crowd of 100,000 boxing fans at Cowboys Stadium.
Paulie Malignaggi says Conor McGregor is nothing more than a con that has tricked the “idiot fans” into believing in him as a fighter, and he’ll knock him out in the 10th round just like Floyd Mayweather Jr. did. Malignaggi sees McGregor as a phony that looks to quit in fights when the going gets tough.
Malignaggi is McGregor’s ex-sparring partner. He helped him for a very short period of time prepare for his fight against Mayweather last August. Malignaggi bailed training camp in a huff after sparring photos were leaked to social media. The photos, which weren’t flattering to Malignaggi, spread like a wildfire.
Billy Joe Saunders (25-0, 12 KOs) will be back inside the ring in just 2 months from now on December 9 defending his WBO middleweight strap against an opponent still to be determined, according to his promoter Frank Warren. Saunders, 28, will be fighting at the Copper Box Arena in London, England.
The November 25th undercard fights for the Sergey Kovalev vs. Vyacheslav Shabranskyy fight on HBO is still being worked on at this time. Light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (20-1, 14 KOs) has been added to the card. Barrera, 35, will be fighting an opponent still to be determined in a 12-round match in the co-feature.
Kovalev-Shabranskyy card will be televised on HBO Boxing at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Paulie Malignaggi says he’s not interested in accepting the challenge to face UFC champion Conor McGregor in the octagon under MMA rules. He says if McGregor wants to fight him, it’s got to take place in a boxing ring.
Malignaggi says McGregor talked a lot of trash after their 2 sparring sessions by saying that he knocked him down and got the better of him. Malignaggi wants McGregor to “man up” and prove that he’s better than him in boxing by facing him inside the ring.
