Former two division world champion Andre Ward says Jose Benavidez Jr. put himself in position where he initiated a harsh reaction from WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford on Friday when he shoved the Nebraska native at their weigh-in for Saturday.

Crawford tried to punch Benavidez Jr. (27-0, 18 KOs) with a right hand that missed. The fighters were pulled apart before either of them could land anything, but it was a surprise that Crawford attempted to land a punch when pushed by Benavidez. Crawford showed that he was willing to take things to a different level.

Matchroom Boxing USA promoter Eddie Hearn’s DAZN card last Saturday had three good efforts by IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, heavyweight contender Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller and WBA super bantamweight champion Danny Roman and one bad effort from welterweight Jessie Vargas.

Unfortunately the fights weren’t likely high profile enough to attract a lot of American subscribers into paying $10 to subscribe to DAZN to see those guys fight last Saturday night at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. Hearn still needs to sign a major star or two like Mikey Garcia, Saul Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin for him to get boxing fans to subscribe in huge numbers.

The 317 pound force of nature Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller (22-0-1, 19 KOs) is looking unbeatable after knocking out Tomasz Adamek (53-6, 31 KOs) in two rounds last Saturday, and he now wants Anthony Joshua to add his name to his growing resume of wins.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t about to make the fight with Miller. He wants to let the fight marinate until next year, and even then it’s not for sure he makes it. If Miller continues to fight the way that he’s been showing lately, he may find himself in the back of the long line with Deontay Wilder waiting for a fight against Joshua.

The vacant WBC Silver welterweight title was on the line tonight. It remains vacant for the time being.

Callum Johnson (17-0, 12 KOs) says he’s ready to pull off a big upset on Saturday night by beating IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (12-0, 12 KOs) and taking his title home from him when he returns to the UK.

Johnson, 33, and Beterbiev will be fighting on DAZN in their kickoff card at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. At Friday’s weigh-in, Johnson looked shorter, smaller and not confident when the two of them stood during the face off.
