ASICS PH runners make history at Tokyo Marathon 2024

The prestigious 2024 Tokyo Marathon came to a close as ASICS Southeast Asia’s PH representatives Arlan Arbois and Marline Capones provided a stunning display in grit, passion, and true athleticism.

Both Arbois and Capones exhibited outstanding performances as Filipino athletes, accepting the challenge that the Tokyo Marathon issued, not only with hard determination, but also considerable style and grace.

    The calm before the storm

Leading up to the Tokyo Marathon, the ASICS SEA representatives participated in a slew of pre-event activities facilitated by ASICS Southeast Asia. Andrei Felix, a supporter of the ASICS PH Runners, joined the activities alongside other influencers from ASICS Southeast Asia.

Said activities included a rejuvenating yoga session for Marline Capones, followed by a 5KM shakeout run in Shinjuku Park with Arlan Arbois and Andrei Felix.

Joining them were other influencers coming from countries in ASICS SouthEast Asia, including Pon Nawasch from Thailand and Hariz Hamdan from Vietnam.

    Going the distance

Southeast East Asian Games marathon silver medalist Arlan Arbois made history at the Tokyo Marathon as the very first Filipino to cross the finish line, securing an impressive rank of 216 out of 38,000 participants.

Likewise, longtime fitness enthusiast and multi-athlete Marline Capones completed the race in the women's category with a remarkable time of 4:13.

Both runners proudly represented ASICS at the Tokyo Marathon in a noteworthy display of dedication and heart.

    Where the magic happens

Amidst the festivities at the Tokyo Marathon, ASICS treated Andrei Felix and Rica Peralejo to an exclusive tour of the ASICS Institute of Sports Science in Kobe, Japan. Established in 1977, the ASICS ISS embodies the corporate vision to “Create Quality Lives through Intelligent Sport Technology” by focusing on the development of quality sportswear and leading the charge through innovation within the industry.

The tour included visits to the Material Research Lab, Material Processing Lab, and Material Testing Lab, providing a closer look behind the scenes of ASICS shoe creation.

The ASICS SEA influencers were not only treated to an in-depth tour, but were also given a frontrow seat to the intricate crafting process at the miniature shoe workshop. This particular highlight was led by the renowned designer of Kayano shoes himself, Mr. Shunichi Kayano.

    ASICS changes the meta

The ASICS PH runners weren’t the only ones making their grand debut at the Tokyo Marathon. Arlan Arbois was the first Filipino to don the ASICS Metaspeed Paris shoes at the event, paving the way for the official local launch starting April onwards.

The innovative design promises to revolutionize the running experience for enthusiasts. The Metaspeed Paris collection, comprising the Metaspeed Sky and Metaspeed Edge, will be available at ASICS Glorietta and ASICS Bonifacio High Street from April 1, with a suggested retail price of 14,990 pesos.
